Falls are not an inevitable part of getting older and the good news is, falls can often be prevented. Steady and Strong classes for older adults have been developed by experts to increase your strength and balance, helping you to stay stronger for longer and able to keep doing the things you love. You will do a mix of seated and standing exercises, with chair support for those who need it.
Simple but effective exercises, that will strengthen the whole body and improve both your balance and posture. Seated and standing exercises.
Our combined Tai Chi and Qigong class starts with a gentle warm-up to calm the breathing and mind, and mobilise the body. Angela will guide you through the Tai Chi steps from the front of the hall, talking you through each of the movements. We will learn a new step or revisit and refine one each class, building on the previous movements to flow a sequence together. Enhance your flexibility, strength, and inner peace with our weekly Yoga class at the Elmwood Centre. Suitable for all ages and abilities, this hour-long session focuses on mindful movement and deep breathing. This is Yoga for everybody and every body with Jackie.
Level 2: Up to 3 miles, tracks and some hills or moderate pace. Intermediate walks, ideal for those looking to develop their walking fitness and able to complete 45-60 mins with minimal stops. Under 18’s may attend but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. This is an Intermediate/Gear 2 walk (the distance is greater than a Gear 1/Intermediate walk) of approximately 4 miles with a couple of different options according to the ground conditions. Maybe one or two short steep ramps and some longer hills can be included depending on sign ups, but as a rule the walk includes gentle inclines and hard tracks through woods. A 3 mile riverside walk.
A 45 minute open gym session where the music is lowered. Parents are allowed to come and train with there newborn/children if they are in a car seat or pushchair.
Within Quiet Hour the gym music is quieter, we ask all attendees to refrain from dropping weights/making loud noises and a gym coach will be available for any support.
