Useful hints and listing FAQ

Lived experience and feedback from the disabled community tells us that listings rich with clear and descriptive information perform better and are more likely to result in someone joining your session/activity. Below are some simple and meaningful pointers to help...

What's an 'opportunity'?

Our umbrella term for activities, classes, sessions etc.

Opportunity name

Be descriptive and concise here, including any relative key words for impairment specific sessions or location. Good examples are:

'Adults Down’s Syndrome Skateboard Lessons'

'Pan Disability Inclusive Multi Sport Club - Loughborough'

'Over 50's gentle seated exercise'

Which  type of opportunity do I need to select?

Activity - select this if you run in person sessions, classes or activities that take place on a regular day and time (eg weekly/monthly) at a physical location.

Online Activity - select this if you run an online/virtual session that takes place on a regular day and time.

Online Event - select if running a one off online/virtual event or session with single or multiple consecutive day duration.

Event - a one off  in person event or session, with single or multiple consecutive day duration at a physical location.

Use a detailed activity description.

Just remember, no disabled person ever complained about being given too much information in advance!

Describe and include details around activity suitability relating to age (kids/adults), ability, impairments - who is it for? Do you include equipment, what should participants wear, price per session, are family/carers/friends welcome and can they participate?

Use clear text free images and alt text

Use images that show your activity, participants and what makes these sessions great. Avoid flyer images with text, it looks terrible and isn't accessible. Adding alt text to images will help blind and visually impaired participants to learn more about your club, if new to using alt text RNIB has great resources and advice.

Why do you need 'county', or my county isn't shown?

County data is used to automatically deliver a randomised selection of nearby and surrounding activities to our newsletter subscribers, and our way of amplifying your listings even further.

Can't see your county? The logic is drawn from an external list over which we currently have no control, so in this case just pick the closest you can find while we work on a solution.

Reoccurring dates

If running a regular session then select the frequency it takes place, either:

  • Weekly

  • Fortnightly

  • Monthly

'Starts on'

Refers to the very first date it takes place after listing (you can put today if easier) and the start time of the session itself

'Ends on'

refers to the very last date the session will take place (please note we'll manually change anything further ahead than a year to maintain quality of data), and the end time of the session itself.

A little strange, but that's what was needed to make the platform functional at the time,

Weekdays

Select the appropriate weekdays that this session runs at the times you've specified. If the session runs at different times on other days then you'll need to create

Accessibility details and equipment

No details too small.

Tell potential participants about the venue - eg disabled parking, step free access, lift locations, accessible changing rooms or toilets.

What kit do they need, what do you provide, are there additional charges?

Phone number and website address format

Include a number if possible to help accessibility. If you don't have a number then simply use 01234 567890 to denote a more obviously false number.

Website needs to be inputted with https:// prefix, eg https://everybodymoves.org.uk

Do you need more than 1 listing?

Maybe... If you have sessions that run:

  1. at different times on different days,

  2. separately with the same activity but tailor to different impairments,

  3. the same activity but at a different venue,

You might benefit from creating these as a separate listing and the good news is you can use our 'clone a listing' feature. This copies over everything from the original to a new listing where you can simply change the details needed, eg address/title etc.

The platform is continually evolving...

We upgrade and enhance our features on a regularly basis, improving the user experience for this searching and listing alike. If you can't find an answer to your question above, or you'd like to share feedback for future upgrades, please do drop a line to info@everybodymoves.org.uk and we'll be happy to help.
