Voices from the woods at East Finchley Library / London Festival of Architecture

Barnet Libraries

Overview

Celebrating the London Festival of Architecture,  Voices from the woods is a 4 mile guided walk through the woods of East Finchley.

Trees are the natural residents of East Finchley and surround the district with pockets of woodland. Some woods are newly established, others ancient, some undergoing renewal, some are planted by people. Here and there a wood proves nature’s point as the trees up grow in the spaces abandoned by people.

Because "the trees have no tongues" Hugh Petrie, Barnet's Heritage Officer, will be their voice, telling tales from these woods: tales of murder, highway robbery, of poachers, gypsy camps, and offering a glimpse at how the community uses them now and what the future might be.

Starting from East Finchley Library the route takes around 2 hours and ends with a light lunch back at East Finchley Library. Booking is essential, and sensible footwear is recommended. Email library.archives@barnet.gov.uk for further information.
