Castleton and Oxlow Rake
NEW ROUTE
Special Event No freedom passport needed to book on.
"All this country is hollow. Could you strike it with some gigantic hammer it would boom like a drum, or possibly cave in altogether." Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Come and join us exploring the quieter side of Castleton.
From the Visitor Centre we'll head through town and up Cave Dale past Peveril Castle. We'll then head towards some of the sites of the historic lead mines around the area. On our return to Castleton we'll get to see the Great Ridge and surrounding hills (weather permitting) from a lesser known vantage.
Approx 11km (7miles) allow at least 3.5 hours.
There's no need to worry about navigation, allowing you to take time to soak in the stunning views and enjoy great company.
Led by an experienced Nordic Walking Instructor who is Outdoor First Aid Trained and will support you along the way.
No dogs on this one due to the abundance of livestock on the route and a lot of the stiles are awkward, especially so with dogs!
Whilst we do understand that sometimes it is not possible to make a class, please be aware that we do operate a no refund policy if you give us less than 24 hours’ notice. To see the full policy click HERE

There was quite a bit of Free Parking as you turn left away from Castleton approx 1km (1/2mile) before the centre as all the Parking Machines had been vandalised last time I was there (so they may have been replaced)
