Norwich Petanque Club
Overview
Pétanque is a fun, social game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, including those with limited movement. Played outdoors on a level gravel surface, the aim is simple – throw or roll your boules as close as possible to the small wooden target ball (called the jack). You don’t need to run, jump or bend quickly; every throw is done from a standing or seated position, and turns are taken at a relaxed pace. Many players use an armchair, walking aid, or wheelchair and still join in fully. What makes pétanque special is how easy it is to learn but how rewarding it feels when your boule lands just right. It’s a sport that brings people together – a chance to make friends, enjoy gentle competition, and spend time in the fresh air without pressure. Games can be adapted to suit your comfort level, whether you prefer to stand, sit, or take breaks between ends. If you’ve been looking for an activity that’s inclusive, sociable, and doesn’t rely on speed or strength, pétanque could be perfect for you. Why not come along, have a go, and discover just how enjoyable this welcoming game can be?
