Whether it's on the track or the road, two wheels or three, Cycling offers something for everyone who wants to feel the freedom of riding a bike.
It can be a great group activity as part of a club, or something you can do with friends and family.
Cycling can be an enjoyable form of low impact exercise. The health benefits of cycling aren’t just physical either; getting active outdoors and enjoying the fresh air can have a great impact on your mental health and wellbeing too.
Cycling can be suitable for a wide range of impairments as you can ride handcycles, trikes, tandem bikes or bikes depending on what is best suited to you. On the track, cyclists would typically ride either tandem bikes or bikes.
To get started you will need to think about basic safety equipment, and you comfort.
Things you might need to get started:
- A good quality helmet,
- Lights and reflective clothing if riding after dark
- Comfortable clothing suited to weather conditions
- Drinks bottle to stay hydrated
- A route that is not too challenging or avoids busy roads
- And of course access to a bike suitable for you!
