Outdoor Sport and Physical Activity: Join in with our #AccessibleOutdoors Month this July.

#AccessibleOutdoors Month Returns This July for a Second Year.
Following the success of last years #AccessibleOutdoors Month we’re pleased to announce the return of our annual celebration of inclusive physical activity, disabled sport, and building a more accessible world through outdoor access and adventure.
Last July, our 5 episodes captured the power of community and the transformative impact of adapting everyday spaces for people of all abilities:
#AccessibleOutdoors highlights the incredible variety of ways disabled people are getting active outside. From accessible mountain biking and all-terrain wheelchair walks to inclusive cycling sessions, inland water activities and beach adventures, the campaign brought powerful stories to life.
Each film showed a different kind of freedom. Gliding over water. Navigating forest trails. Riding side by side on adapted bikes. It reminded us that the great British outdoors belongs to everybody, and that with the right support and design, more spaces can open up to more people.
What to Expect This July
This July, #AccessibleOutdoors is back and it’s set to be even bigger this time around. Expect more of the same energy, storytelling and celebration, with even more ways to enjoy the accessible outdoors.
We’ll be sharing fresh stories from the Every Body Moves community, capturing how people are getting active in ways that work for them. A lot of this year’s content will come straight from the community itself, so you’ll see even more real experiences in real places.
Follow along and see where the journey takes us.
Why It Matters - Disabled people and access to outdoor activity
Outdoor activity in parks, green spaces, and woodlands is a clear preference for many disabled people. However, just 44% say they find it easy to access these spaces, compared to 78% of non-disabled people. This significant gap points to ongoing physical, psychological, and environmental barriers that prevent equal access to outdoor physical activity.
Improving access to green spaces is a top priority for many. 1 in 3 disabled people identified better access to outdoor places as a key action for government. That figure rises to 50% among disabled people living in rural areas, showing how location adds another layer of inequality when it comes to inclusive sport and outdoor activity.
Despite the challenges, motivation to be active is high. Around 76% of disabled people want to increase their physical activity levels. But when finances are tight, 44% say they would reduce spending on sport and exercise first. This shows the importance of affordable, accessible outdoor activities for disabled people across the UK.
