Overview

This diverse and engaging programme offers a range of activities to inspire and encourage those participants who require extra support because of their disabilities. AHOY promotes an inclusive and welcoming centre with qualified, motivational staff plus the opportunity to increase access to new experiences at our riverside base, introducing a range of exciting activities and offers support and training to learn how to sail, row and carry out tasks to broaden horizons, build communication and independent living skills, self-confidence and team work whilst gaining qualifications

Included in this programme are water activities and volunteering sessions to encourage improvement in communication, self-confidence and team work plus the experience of seeing the historic sights of London from the River Thames and all the benefits associated with being by the River. Also included is time with our trained Mentors offering support and advice for social and emotional issues.

This programme is excellent for combating loneliness & social , increasing physical activity, forming friendships and developing coping mechanisms for a better, more balanced independent life and future.

Attending the club:

There are no fees for these activities - although should a participant be in a position to support the charity financially this is something to be discussed on a case by case.

When we meet:

Meetings are every wednesday with sessions starting from 10:00 - 12:30 and 13:30 - 16:00. Participants can stay for one or both sessions

Equipment:

All specialist equipment is provided by AHOY to participate in their activities.
Participants need to bring personal requirements for self support / medical needs as required.

Accessibility Information:

AHOY offer inclusive disabled access.
Ramps are freely available, all access gates are suitable for wheelchair users and lifts onsite provide access to second floor buildings.
Disabled access toilets are accessible in multiple areas and all staff are appropriately trained to support SEND's during activities.
Parking is limited in the surrounding area - but public transport links are good with Deptford over ground 10 minute distance away and DLR 15 mins.
