Overview
Our sound ball tennis sessions, which are open to all ages and sporting abilities, are fun way to improve fitness and well being whilst giving our members the opportunity to make new friends.
Visually impaired / sound ball tennis is an adapted from the full court version of tennis and uses a smaller court marked out with lower nets and tactile lines, and an audible ball so players can hear it bounce. Depending on a player’s degree of sight loss they may have between one and three bounces of the ball before returning it back to their opponent
Metro runs four tennis sessions, per month at the Islington Tennis Centre. The sessions are run by three of our members who have qualified as Lawn Tennis Association coaches, we also engage a professional coach for two of these sessions.
Whilst most of our members play for fun some of our more competitive players are given opportunities to train and to partake in local, regional and national competitions including the METRO Tennis Tournament and Tennis Foundation’s National Visually Impaired Tennis Championships.
