Overview

Gartmorn Dam – For people who have completed a NW Instruction Course. Check the forecast and dress for the weather. A 3m / 5km walk around Gartmorn Dam which was built in 1690 by John Erskine, 6th Earl of Mar, and was the largest artificial body of water in Scotland then. It was built to supply water to a mine drainage engine in the Alloa Colliery. Remains of its industrial past can be seen on the walk.  The path is predominantly flat with a good surface – can be muddy in places.

Meeting point instructions:

Turn off the A908, Whins Road into Gartmorn Road. Follow Gartmorn Road to the entrance Gartmorn Dam and continue to where there is parking available to either the R or the L. There is a local cafe (open Wed-Sun)
