Boccia

Overview

Boccia is the one Paralympic sport that you cannot be too physically disabled to play. Stockport is a boccia club for players of all ages and experience levels from primary school age upwards, with physical disabilities, inclusive of players with multiple, complex or severe impairments. The club has qualified coaches and referees, equipment to lend members including smaller ball sets suitable for young children, and extensive experience of supporting players at all levels of development to access the sport. We also have a developing high-performance group of athletes within the England Talent Pathway and run additional training sessions for these and other athletes with ambitions to take their Boccia careers further. Talk to us about any particular needs or concerns you might have; whether it’s shorter visits, symbol-supported information, a tactile grid for blind players or some one to one sessions with a coach first, we aim to enable all players with physical impairments to integrate into the club and the wider sport. Our venue at Life Leisure Avondale has 4 permanently marked out boccia courts, and now has a Changing Places toilet with hoist and bench available.

Accessibility Information:

Our venue has full step-free access. There are plenty of dedicated accessible parking bays in the car park. There are 2 standard wheelchair accessible toilets and one Changing Places toilet with a hoist and changing bench at the venue. We have sole use of the hall so noise levels are controlled. The hall can be a little echoey. The hall is heated in winter, but can still be a little cool in very cold weather. There are vending machines selling packaged snacks, hot and cold drinks.
