OU Wheelchair Basketball Team

Overview

The Oxford University Wheelchair Basketball Team is open to students and staff at Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University, as well as to members of the local community. We are currently a non-competitive team who focus on skills development, and we are always happy to welcome new members, regardless of experience with either wheelchairs or basketballs. The team train at the Iffley Road Sports centre at least once a week, and structured sessions are provided during term-time. All members must be 18 or over. Current club members are a mix of wheelchair users, other disabled people, people with injuries, and able-bodied people. We also aim to support neurodivergent learning styles. The team includes cis, trans and non-binary participants and welcomes new members throughout the year.

Meeting point instructions:

You will enter the building opposite the reception desk. Reception staff will be happy to point you to the Acer Sports Hall. Directions to the Acer: As you come in through the glass doors, turn left straight away, then continue through the gates, down the ramp on your left. At the bottom of the incline, turn left again through a set of automatic doors and walk straight through the toilet and changing hallway to the sports hall. If you have your own sports wheelchair, you may need to ask the receptionist to open the second glass gate for you to accommodation its width.

Accessibility Information:

The sports centre provides blue-badge and non-blue-badge parking, as well as accessible toilets and changing facilities. There is step-free access from the car park to the Acer sports hall. Some of the non-blue-badge parking is on gravel. We provide support for a range of different physical impairments that affect the trunk and lower limbs, and aim to support neurodivergent learning styles in our sessions. However, we cannot provide support for cognitive/learning disabilities.
