Overview

The Paddle Safer Course is based on learning and, as such, the ethos of ‘supporting the paddler’ is the main focus of the course, encouraging individuals to consider where they paddle, the equipment they use and provide practical solutions if they get into difficulty. The course covers 4 key modules: Equipment ● Craft overview, safety considerations and features ● Clothing and equipment worn ● Additional safety equipment Environment ● The sheltered water environment ● Weather considerations Planning ● Knowledge, experience and ability ● What to expect and what to look out for Rescues ● Rescue techniques ● Supporting others ● Calling for help This course is open to members and non members. For members, it is one of the basic requirements if you wish to paddle independently at Leaside during the weekday daytime Member's Only Sessions.
