Levelling the playing field: Nottingham Casualties Sitting Volleyball – Our amazing Club of the Month for August.

For August's Club of the Month award, we travelled to Nottingham to visit Casualties Sitting Volleyball Club. The club is an inclusive Sitting Volleyball club at the forefront of the game. We at Every Body Moves are thrilled to spotlight this incredible club for our August Club of the Month, a hub of competition and camaraderie. The club is an impeccable example of inclusivity in sport, with practically anyone able to play.

A Sense of Belonging

During our visit, one word echoed throughout: ‘community’. The club fosters a great sense of belonging for its members. What sets this club apart is the diversity of its participants –people of all ages, all backgrounds and all abilities come together to share stories, have fun, and, most importantly, play the game.

Adam Lever, a participant of the club, summed it up perfectly: ‘One of the most inclusive sports there is, regardless of age, gender, disability, once you are all sat on a court it is a level playing field’

The Competitive Side

The sense of competition in the air at the club was palpable. Sitting Volleyball enables people to play sport competitively, it is very physical, fast and importantly very fun.  The team dynamic and social aspect are central to the club’s appeal, and the high morale is infectious.

Ben Lukowski, another participant, said of his love for Sitting Volleyball: ‘Sport has been a big part of my life, I still have that little obsession, a bit of competition is great’

Join the Movement

Casualties Sitting Volleyball is a shining example of the transformative effect of sport and a club atmosphere on members. The club is a place to make friends and a place where community and belonging to something is at the heart of what they are all about.

Steph, the club leader, encapsulates the club’s ethos, saying: ‘Sport is very powerful. It is more than just exercise, more than just being competitive, it creates a community.’

We invite you to join us in celebrating the achievements of Steph and the Casualties Sitting Volleyball Club and to become part of the incredible inclusive world they offer, it is truly fantastic!
