"Exclude less, to include more"

On our visit to Club of the Month winners North Wales Inclusive Cricket, we caught a chat with one of their participants, Toby. He was kind enough to share some thoughts on the inclusion narrative and ways that activity environments could be viewed differently by organisers to help create more accessible sessions.

"One of the major things is some people need that accessibility because they just don't quite fit in. And sitting right on the edge of fitting in is awful!"

"Instead of people going, oh, you're different, and we understand that. People go... you're just a bit weird!"

"It means that having something like this (mixed ability cricket) is absolutely phenomenal, because you do fit in, and it's a group of people who all fit in. It's not about trying to make sure that you include more people, because when you try and force the inclusion, all you're really doing is again, picking out those things that make somebody different. It's more a case of just exclude less rather than include more."

"Just let people be themselves and join rather than trying to get the people to join who have the set characteristics."

"Exclude less rather than trying to include more. So rather than forcing people in, not keeping people out."
