Overview
Formed in June 2012, the Growlers welcome blind and visually impaired people with an interest in keeping active and having fun to join us. We aim to give visually impaired people in and around the county (including South Glos and Bristol) the opportunity to take part in sport. The club is an environment where players can socialise with people who truly understand the daily impact of having a visual impairment. Although we play to win, team spirit is more important to us than results and we pride ourselves on our unique Growler camaraderie! The Growlers are part of the BCEW South and West Development League, playing matches during the summer months. We also train regularly through the summer at Hatherly and Reddings Cricket Club near Cheltenham and the University of Gloucestershire in Gloucester during the winter. Our players are of all ages, both male and female. Many of the team had never played before, so don't be put off if you are new to cricket. Also, we don't play with a real, cricket ball, the game is played with a size 3 football with ball bearings inside so you can hear it. Our winter training sessions take place on Sunday afternoons at the Oxstalls Campus of the University of Gloucestershire in Gloucester.
