Overview
“We don’t use our body to get into a pose, we use the pose to get into our body.”
Adaptive Yoga LIVE is an award-winning organization, founded by two disabled women, who experienced the tremendous mental and physical health benefits of adaptive yoga firsthand.
In adaptive yoga, traditional yoga poses are adapted (using chairs and props), so that they can be experienced by everyone regardless of their level of ability. The emphasis is on the experience with a pose - not simply the physical accomplishment.
As a form of fitness - Adaptive yoga promotes blood flow and circulation, and helps reduce muscle tension through gentle, progressive movements. It helps strengthen weak / injured muscles, improve balance and flexibility, and is low-impact on your body’s joints.
As a mind/body modality - Adaptive yoga is unparalleled in its ability to relive stress, help people cope with pain, find meaning in daily life, and create more positive relationships with their bodies.
Yoga and sports ability and performance now go hand in hand, with parasports teams and disabled athletes using yoga, to help them overcome their biggest physical and psychological demands. Yoga helps disabled athletes avoid injury and improve performance to achieve lasting results.
Remember, yoga is about listening to your body, not challenging it , so only do what feels good!
