Overview
BLS's primary aim is to bring sailing to people with disability, their family unit and/or carer. This has been extended to include those disadvantaged through circumstance. Belfast Lough Sailability is run entirely by volunteers with no paid staff. BLS’s key objective is to encourage people with disability to try sailing, motor boating or kayaking without needing to have any previous experience or knowledge. Thus offering and promoting the sport of sailing to others in the community who may never get the opportunity. We realise that sailing and boating in general is seen as an elitist sport, we have worked hard and through funding have been able to build up a supply of lifejackets, buoyancy aids, foul weather clothing etc. to enable our participants to go on the water safely.BLS promotes sailing and encourages the use of the marine environment with our ‘open door’ policy and being fortunate in having the use of the Carrickfergus Marina and Harbour to operate from and the safe waters of Belfast Lough are always available.
