Falls Prevention Programme
Birchwood Leisure Centre
Overview
The programme helps to reduce the risk of falls, particularly among older adults at higher risk of falls and fall-related injuries. Our qualified exercise instructors understand the body’s age-related changes and deliver this class with those concerns in mind. Following the Postural Stability Instruction (PSI) method – the only evidence-based exercise that provides proven outcomes for frequent or recurrent fallers – FaME helps improve strength, stability, and confidence in balance. The program includes assessing fall risk factors, such as balance and mobility, strength, vision, and medication use. Based on the assessment, our instructors will develop a tailored program for each participant to address identified risk factors and improve overall strength, balance, and coordination. The ultimate goal of our Falls Management Exercise program is to reduce the incidence of falls and related injuries, improve quality of life, and help older adults maintain their independence for as long as possible. Participants must have a history of falls in the last 12 months and have completed the Falls Management Programme Pack. To book this class, please email wellbeing@hatfield-herts.gov.uk. The Falls Management Programme is funded by WelHat Healthy Hub.Club features
